This document presents the complete innervation of the lower limb, organized by anatomical regions (groin, glutes, thigh, leg) and distributed across the medial, lateral, and posterior aspects. It includes the description of the origin, course, distribution, and main branches of each nerve, both in Spanish and English.
Ingle y Glúteos / Groin and Gluteal Region
Nervio Iliohipogástrico / Iliohypogastric Nerve
Origen / Origin: Plexo lumbar, raíces de L1 y ocasionalmente T12.
Plexus: Lumbar plexus, roots L1 and occasionally T12.
Recorrido / Course: Emerge del psoas mayor, cruza el cuadrado lumbar y atraviesa la pared abdominal. Emanates from the psoas major, crosses the quadratus lumborum, and traverses the abdominal wall.
Distribución / Distribution: Inerva la piel de la región glútea superior externa y la parte inferior del abdomen. Innervates the skin of the upper external gluteal region and the lower abdomen.
Ramas / Branches: Cutánea lateral y cutánea anterior. / Lateral and anterior cutaneous branches.
Nervios Clúneos / Cluneal Nerves
Origen / Origin: Ramos dorsales de L1 a L3 (superiores), S1 a S3 (mediales), y del nervio cutáneo femoral posterior (inferiores). Dorsal rami of L1-L3 (superior), S1-S3 (medial), and posterior femoral cutaneous nerve (inferior).
Recorrido / Course: Los superiores y mediales cruzan la fascia toracolumbar; los inferiores emergen del nervio cutáneo femoral posterior. Superior and medial traverse the thoracolumbar fascia; inferior emerge from the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve.
Distribución / Distribution: – Superiores: Región glútea superior. / Superior: Upper gluteal region. – Mediales: Región glútea medial. / Medial: Medial gluteal region. – Inferiores: Región glútea inferior y lateral. / Inferior: Inferior and lateral gluteal region.
Ramas / Branches: Sin ramas principales. / No major branches.
Nervio Femoral / Femoral Nerve
Origen / Origin: Plexo lumbar, raíces de L2, L3 y L4. / Lumbar
plexus, roots L2, L3, and L4.
Recorrido / Course: Emerge del borde lateral del psoas mayor, pasa por debajo del ligamento inguinal hacia el triángulo femoral. Emerges from the lateral border of the psoas major, passes under the inguinal ligament into the femoral triangle.
Distribución / Distribution: – Músculos del compartimento anterior: cuádriceps femoral, sartorio e iliopsoas. Anterior compartment muscles: quadriceps femoris, sartorius, and iliopsoas. – Piel anteromedial del muslo. / Anteromedial skin of the thigh.
Ramas / Branches: Nervio safeno, ramas musculares y ramas cutáneas. / Saphenous nerve, muscular, and cutaneous branches.
Nervio Obturador / Obturator Nerve
Origen / Origin: Plexo lumbar, raíces de L2, L3 y L4. / Lumbar
plexus, roots L2, L3, and L4.
Recorrido / Course: Emerge medial al psoas mayor, atraviesa el foramen obturador. Emerges medially to the psoas major, passes through the obturator foramen.
Distribución / Distribution: – Músculos aductores del muslo. / Adductor muscles of the thigh. – Piel medial del muslo. / Medial skin of the thigh.
Ramas / Branches: Musculares y cutáneas. / Muscular and cutaneous branches.
Pierna / Leg
Cara Medial / Medial Side
Nervio Safeno / Saphenous Nerve
Origen / Origin: Rama sensitiva del nervio femoral (L3, L4). / Sensory branch of the femoral nerve (L3, L4).
Recorrido / Course: Pasa por el canal aductor, se hace superficial en la rodilla y desciende por la pierna medial. Passes through the adductor canal, becomes superficial at the knee, and descends along the medial leg.
Distribución / Distribution: Piel medial de la pierna, maléolo interno y parte medial del pie. Medial skin of the leg, medial malleolus, and medial foot.
Ramas / Branches: Ramos cutáneos infrarrotulianos y mediales. / Infrapatellar and medial cutaneous branches.
Cara Lateral / Lateral Side
Nervio Fibular Superficial / Superficial Fibular Nerve
Origen / Origin: Rama terminal del nervio fibular común (L4, L5, S1). / Terminal branch of the common fibular nerve (L4, L5, S1).
Recorrido / Course: Desciende por el compartimento lateral de la pierna y se hace superficial en el tercio distal. Descends along the lateral compartment of the leg and becomes superficial in the distal third.
Distribución / Distribution: Músculos peroneos largo y corto; piel del dorso del pie y tercio distal de la pierna anterolateral. Peroneus longus and brevis muscles; dorsum of the foot and distal anterolateral leg.
Cara Posterior / Posterior Side
Nervio Tibial / Tibial Nerve
Origen / Origin: Rama terminal del nervio ciático (L4-S3). / Terminal branch of the sciatic nerve (L4-S3).
Recorrido / Course: Desciende por la fosa poplítea, atraviesa el compartimento posterior y se divide en nervios plantares. Descends through the popliteal fossa, traverses the posterior compartment, and divides into plantar nerves.
Distribución / Distribution: Músculos de la pantorrilla y piel de la planta del pie. Calf muscles and plantar skin.
